Embryonic Stem Cell Research Federal Funding Ban Lifted For The Moment
A US appeals court has just suspended a ban imposed by US District Judge Royce Lamberth last month, meaning that for the moment federal funds can continue supporting embryonic stem cell research. A Washington court has placed a temporary stay on Lamberth's decision. Experts throughout the USA have criticized the ban, which former President George Bush kept in place, saying numerous patients with serious and often chronic disease were having their hopes of a cure, or at least better treatment than currently available, delayed... <p><a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/rE3ETM_XQmqE3MKGUOVIFxBn-lw/0/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/rE3ETM_XQmqE3MKGUOVIFxBn-lw/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a><br/> <a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/rE3ETM_XQmqE3MKGUOVIFxBn-lw/1/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/rE3ETM_XQmqE3MKGUOVIFxBn-lw/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a></p><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/mnt/healthnews/~4/GSO22KF_2bc" height="1" width="1"/>

Electronic Cigarette Distributors Warned By FDA Regarding Unsubstantiated Claims
Warning letters were sent to five different electronic cigarette distributors by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for making unsubstantiated claims, as well as poor manufacturing practices. The FDA also informed the Electronic Cigarette Association that it means to regulate electronic cigarettes and related products "in a manner consistent with its mission of protecting the public health." Multivitamins Don't Alter Colon Cancer Recurrence Or Death Risk
Individuals with colon cancer who took multivitamins after surgery, either before, during or after chemotherapy experienced no significant change in their risk of the cancer coming back, or dying from colon cancer, wrote researchers from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in an article published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. While no benefits were observed for stage III colon cancer patients, there were not any reported detrimental side effects either... <p><a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/t1rTZdbUPx_DlnKF5Ctb6iWkT5Q/0/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/t1rTZdbUPx_DlnKF5Ctb6iWkT5Q/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a><br/> <a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/t1rTZdbUPx_DlnKF5Ctb6iWkT5Q/1/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/t1rTZdbUPx_DlnKF5Ctb6iWkT5Q/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a></p><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/mnt/healthnews/~4/WYBBD6p2ku0" height="1" width="1"/>

There Should Be Mandatory Flu Vaccines For All Health Care Workers, American Academy Of Pediatrics
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) announced today that it believes all health care workers should have mandatory (compulsory) flu shots. The AAP adds that health-care associated influenza outbreaks contribute considerably to patient morbidity and mortality and also place a financial burden on health care systems. Health care associated influenza outbreaks are common, says the AAP. In view of this, the American Academy of Pediatrics, in a new policy statement, recommends that all health care workers should have to receive a flu shot every year... <p><a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/REOra25n1iSBWV8L0kRsXEKcByY/0/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/REOra25n1iSBWV8L0kRsXEKcByY/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a><br/> <a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/REOra25n1iSBWV8L0kRsXEKcByY/1/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/REOra25n1iSBWV8L0kRsXEKcByY/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a></p><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/mnt/healthnews/~4/HJz13mjLtbw" height="1" width="1"/>

Wisconsin Governor Pushes For Stem Cell Research Federal Funding
Wisconsin will join nationwide efforts to make sure federal funding reaches stem cell scientists in his state, Governor Jim Doyle announced. An injunction was granted by U.S. District Court Judge, Royce Lambeth which barred federal funding of human embryonic stem cell research. Governor Doyle said: Wisconsin is home to over 600 biotechnology companies and 11 stem cell companies. In total, there are more than 34,000 people working in bioscience research and industry in Wisconsin. These fields contribute almost $9 billion to Wisconsin's economy. But all of that is at risk today... <p><a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/htdP32LrGubQcwL-7AdNU0RV0Qk/0/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/htdP32LrGubQcwL-7AdNU0RV0Qk/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a><br/> <a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/htdP32LrGubQcwL-7AdNU0RV0Qk/1/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/htdP32LrGubQcwL-7AdNU0RV0Qk/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a></p><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/mnt/healthnews/~4/UoP5-TUdyww" height="1" width="1"/>

Genetic Connection Between Endometriosis And Ovarian Cancer Found
A new cancer gene mutation - ARID1A - has been found which links endometriosis to two types of ovarian cancer, researchers report in an article published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). After examining 600 ovarian cancer samples, scientists from the Ovarian Cancer Research Program of British Columbia (OvCaRe) concluded that the genetic mutation, ARID1A and loss of function is thought to be an early event in the development of clear-cell and endometrioid cancers in endometriosis... <p><a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/ueX6F9UoCkaJALCaWWtyFbfEEqI/0/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/ueX6F9UoCkaJALCaWWtyFbfEEqI/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a><br/> <a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/ueX6F9UoCkaJALCaWWtyFbfEEqI/1/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/ueX6F9UoCkaJALCaWWtyFbfEEqI/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a></p><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/mnt/healthnews/~4/hE8jzHIceHs" height="1" width="1"/>

Niger: Treatment And Prevention To Break The Cycle Of Malnutrition
Every year, the population of Niger is affected by a nutritional crisis that peaks between May and September. The scale of the crisis in 2010 is particularly worrying. More than 77,000 children with severe malnutrition have already been treated this year in the 69 nutritional centers supported by Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières(MSF) and its partners: Forum Santé Niger (FORSANI), and Bien-Etre de la Femme et de l'Enfant au Niger (BEFEN/ALIMA)... <p><a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/OGvhfMFXFe_b8eE2tjU1BKInEz0/0/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/OGvhfMFXFe_b8eE2tjU1BKInEz0/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a><br/> <a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/OGvhfMFXFe_b8eE2tjU1BKInEz0/1/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/OGvhfMFXFe_b8eE2tjU1BKInEz0/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a></p><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/mnt/healthnews/~4/hg7tgcnIyEM" height="1" width="1"/>
